Edren T. Sumagaysay

my mother and father combined their names to get my name. the first two letters of my name are the first two letter of my dads name. the last three letters of my name are the next three letters of my mothers name. simple right? well, the fucked up thing is that my name backwards is, nerde. you pronounce it out loud and you'll realize why i suck at social gatherings. and i don't like taking showers.

net neutrality

yo.

i was about to go to sleep coz it's, like, 3:30 in the morning and i got to wake up early to talk to someone so he could make some money so i could make some money so the other people involved could make some money so we can all do something with that money. good or bad, depends on the person, right, but at least for me, i plan on saving some flowers so's my upcoming progeny can smell them.

but i decided to go to youtube to check out if Bleach 112 came out yet. now Bleach is a bad ass anime series that my boys from DnD and WoW and RPG and ya know, cool geeky shit told me about a while back. 'sabout this shinigami who is also a vaizard and how he battles hollows and mundos and arrancars and travels back and forth from japan and soul society and hueco mundo. anyway, as we all know, japan got their shit down when it comes to epic episodic bad ass series'. they win in the world hands down, yo.

and i got to see it! it was okay. a filler of sorts, but it helps set up the story because i know 113 is going to be bad ass or at least 114 will be, which simply means i got ot wait for two more weeks to get my fill of bleach.

and then i ended up noticing this other pod series called, chad vader. and i watched it. it was funny. and it had five episodes. it's about this dude named chad, who is a vader, and how he is the day manager of a grocery store. real funny shit. and you know what? i think it was good morning america that aired chad vader, episode 5 during one of their segments.

then i wanted to watch, ask a ninja, one of my favorite pod series'. and i think they were bnought by aol to compete with google buying youtube, but that doesn't make sense because ask a ninja is still on youtube which is google, and why would they allow that? but i decided to shut my mind and listen to the glub glub glub of LCD AV. and i ended up watching this one, ask a ninja episode on net neutrality.

what the fuck is that, net neutrailty? other than hard to type, the neutrailty, at least for the first time, coz at 3:30 in the morning, it's hard ot discern which comes first, the 'e' or the 'u' in neutral. but after a while, you start to figure it out and have your fingers memorize where on the god damned keyboard the 'e' and the 'u' are and which one actually does come first.

but i digress.

what the fuck is net neutrality? so i looked it up. and for some reason, some strange reason, i began getting scared and upset.

if you're busy or lazy or both to want to know what net neutrality is, i'll tell ya. basically, it's the even playing field of internet speed at which we all browse the web. if you got dsl or cable, that's how fast your connection will be, assuming you got a decent enough processor and bus speed and clean easy to navigate hard drive etc. i've been learning a lot. ya know. part of the training to be a shinigami and all. if you got a t1 or t2 line, that's how fast you're speed will be. and net neutrality is the unwritten rule that all isp's abide by. only because the internet is so new, there is no one organization that can dictate anything really. besides, the internet was just a side note, almost a cute bauble, in the eyes of big business.

but streaming video, faster computers, better technology, has changed all that. because of these timely things, people can go to a website like youtube and watch episodes of anythign they want. for free. anyone can go to a torrent site and as long as their ratio is even, they can download any song or video show. for free. they can get an internet phone from IM. for free. shit, if they know how to cut and paste hand have enough hard drive space, they can keep newly released movies on their computers. for free. and at high quality.

i like that. $12 for a movie that is shit, is ridiculous. $20 bucks for a CD with two good songs on it, is really stupid. paying $150 for 500 channels which only has three or four good shows total, is retarded. paying $50 a month for cell phone service when, after i calculated the numbers, i would be paying $4.32 per phone call, is dumb. at least for me. some people need their cells.

but anyway. that was a tangent.

i can do all of that shit for free with my internet. by the way, which i still pay for. but it's something i see as reasonable.

and another thing i enjoy are the little gems and kernels of gold i find on the internet. other than free porn, there are things like hoody hoo, a funny as rpg website that has flash comics. youtube, google video, currenttv, bliptv, and a shit load of other sites where i can watch other peoples videos. for free. and some of them are really good, to the point of where i've become a fan. ask a ninja is so fucking funny to me. i'm gald that fool got money. i thought he was talented as fuck. i'm glad chad vader got props on good morning america. that shit is funny.

ebay, google, yahoo, even frikkin' myspace got their businesses off the ground because of the internet being free. because when you got a playing field that is that wide open, only the consumer decides who gets their money. i'll say that again, because it's very important. when we have a playing field as wide open as the word free, then only the consumers decide who gets their hard earned money. small businesses can start on the internet and has potential for big earnings because of that kind of playing field.

and i really, really like that.

but now, viacom, comcast, and AT&T have been trying to push this bill that'll allow them, since they are ISPs, to decide which consumer to give the speed to. basically, if you haven't noticed, these companies offer three or four types of packages when deciding on what kind of internet plan a consumer would want. cheapest, is a 56k speed. middle is like, i think, 136kbs. the third is like 233kbs, i think. of course you got the t1 and t2 lines which is, what, a million kbs. so they have the capacity to limit the amount of kilobytes that travel per second in our lines to the internet. what they want to do, legally, is to have customers who pay more, to have a faster connection. but, also, in a different manner than they already do. aded to that, they want to block a certain amount of kilobytes on certain websites so that that page loads slower. meaning, if yahoo isn't part of AT&Ts ISP plan, than it will take a shit load longer to upload info. this means several things. online banking will be slowed, reading e-mail will be slowed, watching youtube will be slowed, and if you had a website, and you weren't on the ISP list, you're shit will be slowed. and it'll all depend on how much the website pays that ISP, and how much the internet viewer is willing to pay.

i don't watch cable because it's shit. the programming is shit. and these big businesses did that to themselves by making crap on TV. but now they want to tap into one of the last remnants of freedom in america. and i really don't mean to sound like a flag waving retard, or a picket sign carrying hipster, or even a vegetarian psuedo-intellectual. but i just see this as another thing that gets overlooked by the masses, by us, because we just don't know about it. for whatever reasons. maybe TV. maybe even the internet. i dunno.

all i know is, the internet is where we can catch up as lower middle class folk, trying to get our crumb from the dripping pies of big business. and now they want to take that opportunity away. which is smart on their part, but very dumb on ours.

hey man, i could be totally wrong. it is 4:00 in the morning now. and i did internet research. and you know how reliable that is. but i guess that's my point. i am able to do that. on this thing called the internet. for free. without having to pay extra just because i want to know more or watch more.

so what am i going to do? i dunno. the first thing i wanted to do is write about it. send it over my e-mail account to you. then go to myspace and post it on my blog. then go to friendster and post it on my blog. then go to blog spot and post it on my blog. then post it on some forums on other websites that i'm on. then maybe go talk to armando and lushun about making a special "if" episode about this whole net neutrailty thing and then post it on our website. and who knows, that might not make much difference. but you know what? and i'll even indent for this last sentence.

i'll do all of that, because, on this space, where i've left the pen and paper and fell in love with playing the keyboard, because here, on the internet, i can.

p.s.
this could be crappy writing.
i extend apologies, friend.
i'll try harder next time.
